In Defense of EMILY's List

So it would appear that I need to don my wetsuit one more time and swim across the pond to defend the honor of EMILY’s list.

The last time I did this was earlier this summer, when EMILYs List — a national political group dedicated to electing pro-choice progressive women — launched a campaign, “Sarah Doesn’t Speak For Me.” The group ran an ad openly mocking Sarah Palin’s whole “mama grizzly” trope for conservative women. In the ad, women dressed in bear costumes voiced their concerns over such issues as health care policy and federal support for education to explain why Palin does not speak for them. While many feminist bloggers pilloried the ad, I was quite sympathetic. I thought it was funny, clever and appropriately outrageous.

Now, EMILY’s list would appear to be in hot water once again. This time, it concerns the Smart Girl Summit that took place in Arlington, Va., last week. Smart Girl Summit is an outgrowth of Smart Girl Politics, which bills itself as “the home on the Internet for conservative women and grassroots activism.”

Yesterday, I was also over on Politics Daily talking about how emerging terrorist threats are darkening Europe’s immigration debate.

Oh it is all over the place here and the “mean girls” on both sides and the “Mean Boys” on both sides get into these horrific damaging circular arguments that are just biting and hair pulling at it’s worst…
Then we wonder why kids are having wrestling matches in parking lots over a sneer or a perceived sneer.

    Rats in a maze

I did find out this weekend that 1,000s of people in my region are working underground to try to move forward even during the Bush’ denials…supporting each other and just letting the noise happen and staying out of the way…

All these political groups and noises are providing great cover up for folks who are doing the work and living full and healthy lives.

Teachers who are daring to teach and not just to the weekly test….who are teaching individuals not factory workers for the non-existent factories here.

There are folks getting solar panels and wind mills and making their houses net-zero like the rest of the world is doing since Koyoto agreement and they are thriving – no time to yell and scream and chase the tails that wag the noise…

    This gives me hope…

…these young women coming up are mighty disgusting and they waste my time and exhaust my ears.

The really scary thing is the numbers of people who think nasty, lying & malicious personal attacks are O.K. — the same people who believe the President is a foreign-born Muslim. Lots & lots of ink for slander is readily available & those who dare to rebut them get too little. I think the most effective (i.e., publicized) rebuttals are the funny ones, as in “lies & the lying liars. . .” Let us bring lots of that on!

I think this is why I just read the headlines and once a week watch segments of the Daily Show…there is very little time for the funny or the good ink…rational, smart…I think though we have a whole generation of nasty people
