A few months back, I wrote a post in which I declared that this year, I would be taking the month of August off to write.
Well, it’s August 7th. And while I’ve not done much writing (yet!), I am taking the month off. I will be heading home to the United States today to visit friends and family and – most importantly of all – to celebrate my late mother’s life.
It’s strange, this “taking August off” thing. While I’ve lived in the UK for 15 years now, I still feel very American when it comes to vacations. Not working for an entire month feels so terribly self-indulgent and European!
But I once had a life coach who told me to “listen to my body.” And my body is telling me that I need to check out for a while.
